At one point or another, we all experience something devastating. Something so big that it shocks us to the core, so much so that our body and minds simply refuse to accept it or is able to process it.
Nobody is promised a painless life. We aren’t even promised a life, beyond this very moment.
So what do you do when life gets you down? When your emotions feel like they are drowning you?
I guess the only thing is to try and sit still with them. Acknowledge the emotions even if that means taking it day by day, hour by hour.
Almost like in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone, where Harry, Hermoine, and Ron are trapped in the devil snare plant. Ron is trying to thrash around and fight it, creating the plant to slowly suffocate him. Hermoine on the other hand stays still, riding out the wave and panic, and the plant releases her from its grip.
Perhaps when you acknowledge the emotions, you become equals with it, as you find it less and less intimidating. As you crawl, walk, or run into your power.
I’ll admit, sometimes life can make you feel powerless when you think about how quickly life can change in an instant, in a day, in a conversation.
In the last year and a half, everything that I thought was my stability has been ripped out from under me. Forcing me to readjust and find the strength within me that I never knew I had.
The biggest lesson has been that nothing in life is permanent, no matter how hard we try to keep it the same.
In a way, it’s a double-edged sword, on one side it can be excruciating and on the other you know these painful moments will pass eventually.
So if you’re going through something difficult, know you’re not alone and this too shall pass.
While we may not have control over everything, we do have control over how we live our life. In how we pursue our happiness. In how we can overcome these obstacles.
Have compassion with your healing, and try to find the joy in the simplest things in your day.
